Rotovibulum Reversum c.1987

THE VIBULUM FAMILY
(
MOTOTONES)
The first vibulum was an eight-inch vibrator hung to swing as a pendulum above a magnetic bass pickup. A low-voltage motor is "picked up" the same way a vibrating string is picked up because it is oscillating metal within a magnetic feild.

This "mototonous" effect has been used in three basic configurations.

1. VIbuilum - pendular motion
2. Vibrokick - back and forth motion, using a kickdrum pedal as a chassis.
3. Vibrowheel - rotary motion, using a small, heavy flywheelas a chassis. As the wheel speed increases, centrifical force slows the motors. At very high speeds the motors stop, but the wheel spins fast enough over the pickups to create a new tone.
